OUR HOME IS YOUR HOME

When husband and wife Joe & Theresa Klassen opened the first Joey’s restaurant in up and coming Calgary in 85′, the goal was always to serve delicious and affordable seafood. Since then, Joey’s has expanded to become the largest seafood restaurant chain in Canada.

We are passionate about serving authentic fish & chips to Canadians, which means every Joey’s restaurant handcuts and batters each piece of fish. We also care about the environment which is why most of our seafood is sustainably

sourced, and we have eco-friendly take-out packaging.

OCEAN-WISE AT OUR VERY CORE

When you choose to eat Joey’s seafood you’re helping ensure the long-term survival of the species and a healthy ocean. We’ve partnered with Ocean Wise, a Canadian program run by the Vancouver Aquarium.

There are four criteria for our menu items to be recommended by the Ocean Wise program:

1) The species is abundant and resilient to overfishing. Roughly one third of the world’s fish stocks are being consumed faster than they can reproduce.

2) Well managed with a management plan based on current research.

3) The species is harvested in a way that limits bycatch, so you’re helping to save sea turtles and dolphins and other ocean life that might be endangered.

4) The species is harvested in a way that limits damage to marine habitats like coral reefs.

We choose paper or plastic take out packaging that is compostable or recyclable. We use paper bags instead of plastic. We’ve replaced Styrofoam food containers with plastic or cardboard. Plastics take hundreds of years to degrade and we’re doing our part to make better choices for the environment.

We stopped automatically serving straws with every beverage. We estimate that this seemingly small change can reduce the number of plastic straws going into oceans and landfills by roughly 95,000 straws every year. Since straws take about 200 years to break down, this will have a lasting impact on the planet we call home.
